I went into my local Chase branch to pay $3.78 on the principal balance of my mortgage (WAMU). The teller was new and kind of taken aback when I gave her my mortgage loan number. She was impressed that I had it memorized. I informed her that I wait until the mortgage is paid on the 11th each month then stop in regularly to put my pocket change toward the principal balance. I have a few Chase branches which are within close proximity to my home so it normally is along the way. I figure every little bit counts.

Just one additional mortgage payment each year will cut up to 1/3 of the time off a normal 30 year mortgage.
